EXTRAIRON contains iron fully chelated with the 4,2% ortho-ortho isomeric form of ethylendiamino-di (o-hydroxyphenylacetic) acid. The ortho-ortho isomer renders the iron highly soluble and thus available to the crop, even in the case of soils with high pH values. In calcareous soils in fact, iron salts are precipitated and locked in the soil, unavailable to the plant. Iron plays an important role in formation of the chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for the absorption of solar radiation, powering the photosynthetic process. The ortho-ortho form of iron EDDHA is the most stable and effective of the iron chelates, especially recommended for soils causing iron to become insoluble.
